Is Heat Treatment Safe for Kids and Pets Once You’re Back Home?
Here’s what to expect once the treatment window ends and everyone comes back inside.
Right When You Get Home
Once the room has cooled to a normal temperature and your technician gives the all-clear, kids and pets can return right away. There is no residue to avoid, no surfaces that need to be wiped down first, and no windows that need to stay open to air anything out.
Pets With Special Needs
Fish tanks, reptile enclosures, and other temperature-sensitive pets do need extra planning ahead of the appointment, since the room itself gets very hot during treatment. Your technician will walk through what needs to be moved or protected before the crew arrives. For general information on bed bug treatment methods and safety considerations, the EPA’s bed bug page is a helpful reference.
What Else to Move Out
Medications, candles, and anything else that shouldn’t be exposed to high heat should also be moved out of the treatment area beforehand, the same way you would prep for any home service that heats a room well above normal living temperatures.
