Bed Bug Detection and Monitoring

Dealing With Bed Bugs?

Rock Pest’s experts explain what to look for.

Start With a
Thorough Inspection

Bed bug detection is the first and most critical step in eliminating an infestation. Our team at Rock Pest Control combines a detailed visual inspection with advanced detection methods, including a trained bed bug detection dog. This process allows us to locate bed bug activity early and accurately—even in cases where signs are hard to spot.

Signs We Look For:

  • Bites

  • Bed Bug Droppings

  • Live Bugs

  • Shell Casings

  • Odor

The Bed Bug Inspection Process

  • 01

    Visual Inspection

We start with a detailed inspection of mattresses, furniture, baseboards, and common hiding areas. During which, we are looking for clear signs like droppings, casings, and live activity.

  • 02

    Targeted Detection

Bed bugs hide deep in seams, cracks, and tight spaces. We focus on these high-risk areas where activity is most likely to be missed during a quick or surface-level inspection.

  • 03

    K9 Detection Support

In early infestations, especially within the first 1 to 3 weeks, visual signs can be minimal or easy to miss. In these cases, we get help from Raven—our highly trained detection dog—to locate as few as 1 to 3 bed bugs, helping us confirm activity with precision.

  • 04

    Assessment & Plan

Once we confirm activity, we evaluate the severity and walk you through a clear treatment plan so you know exactly what happens next.

After Your Treatment

We’ll guide you on monitoring results and ensuring bed bugs are fully eliminated.

Limit Contact With the Source

After treatment, there are 2 major factors to pay attention to. First, whoever you got the bed bugs from—we recommend limiting visiting that person until they are confirmed to be bed bug-free.

Treat Removed Items Before Return

If infested items were removed from the house so it could be treated, all items must be treated before coming back inside. Bed bugs can live up to a year without biting us.

Know When to Reach Out

If there is any live activity after a heat treatment, let us know ASAP. For chemical, wait 2 weeks after the final treatment. For fungicide, wait 30 days.

Take a Photo if You’re Unsure

After a bed bug treatment, all bugs can feel like bed bugs. Sending a photo allows us to quickly confirm and give immediate peace of mind if it’s not.

Accuracy is Everything

Without proper detection, bed bug treatments can miss hidden activity. A detailed inspection ensures the problem is fully understood, so the right solution is applied the first time.

Next Steps Made Simple

Once we confirm bed bug activity, our team will guide you through the next steps, including treatment options and preparation.
